Google Inc. has come up with its new search algorithm Hummingbird so as to handle the long, complex questions from internet users in a more efficient manner. In a press conference on Thursday, senior Vice President Amit Singhal stated that this new algorithm would affect 90 per cent of Google searches across the world.
Keeping in mind the issues faced by keyword based systems to handle complicated questions, Hummingbird has been launched to help Google match the meanings and ideas along with words.
This new algorithm will help Google match the meaning of queries as per documents on the user’s system. It is widely believed that the launch of Hummingbird will have a great impact on website traffic. Any change in Google rankings will have great implications as they tend to drive much of website traffic.
Prices of Google ads may also go up if websites who are moved down in the rankings by Hummingbird attempt to buy marketing messages to draw traffic. Hummingbird which was launched on September 27, on Google’s 15th anniversary has been designed to ensure that Google has a better understanding of concepts rather than words. -
